Jiu Jitsu in Schools has been a great asset to our school extra-curricular activities. We have a number of pupils who attend the sessions on a regular basis and we have noticed the impact that this has had on their behaviour and attainment within a range of lessons and school environments. The classes run smoothly, are well organised and fit in well with the timings of the school day. These classes are a well valued part of out extra-curricular timetable and we appreciate the positive gains it has on the children and the school.
My name is David Webb and I am the founder of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Schools™.
I am a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, a black belt in Judo, a second-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and have been training martial arts for over 25 years. Since 2000 I have been the head coach of my own very successful martial arts academy, the Tōukon Academy™ – the leading Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire and in 2009 I took the blueprint of that success and Implemented my own independent scheme with a view to promote Brazilian Jiu Jitsu within UK schools at a local, regional and national level.
To date, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Schools™ has engaged some 1500 children and played an important role in enhancing motor function and fitness and improving confidence and social mobility. In short, my scheme has provided a level of enrichment rarely found elsewhere and I believe, wholeheartedly, it can transform, inspire, mobilise and engage your child too.
Delivering a structured, progressive curriculum, classes encourage development over a 36-week syllabus within the familiar setting of your child’s school. The learning process is graded along this curriculum with scheduled promotions that ensure your child has the ability to set realistic but challenging goals, this dedication to structured progression improves concentration and breeds an understanding of attainment, an appreciation of hard work and subsequent accomplishment.
Mindful operating standards ensure that all lead coaches are emergency first aid certified, fully-qualified Jiu Jitsu coaches, possess an enhanced DBS disclosure and are trained to a very high standard, ensuring every child enjoys their time in a safe and organised environment.

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU & BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN.
Jiu-Jitsu itself acts as many things to many people. A competitive sport with an enormous network of associations stretching across the globe, a mechanism trusted as the world’s #1 form of personal self-defence and an enrichment tool that quite literally transforms the lives of those involved. Refined across many generations, BJJ, as we have come to understand it, is a complete grappling system that encourages both standing and ground techniques. Derived from traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu and more recently Kodakan Judo, classes are conducted in a Jiu-Jitsu uniform called a kimono. Jiu-Jitsoka are ranked based on their ability to apply technique underpinned by the universal concepts and principles of body mechanics and physics.
Children that train BJJ experience improved concentration, focus & attention; it is perfect for mobilising children and tackling childhood obesity and has specifically dedicated ‘anti-bullying’ programmes. It teaches responsibility & discipline and curriculum’s are taught in an extremely fun learning environment. The difference, however, between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and types of Karate or indeed other jiu-jitsu styles is its method of training. From day one your child is taught functional self-defence and everything practiced on the Tatami mats of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school works. No false impressions are made, everything is valid and has substance and more importantly children become confident in their abilities right from the start.
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU SHOULD BE THE #1 CHOICE FOR YOUR CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT.
David Webb has been running a morning session of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for our pupils for a number of years. The sessions are well managed and organised. The children benefit from the promotion of discipline and respect that the session instils, as part of the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The children enjoy the sessions and make good progress enjoying the praise and encouragement they get from David’s instruction. As a school we feel these sessions are an important part of our extra-curricular activities.

This is a brilliant class – not only does Dave manage to teach them basic Jiu-Jitsu skills in a way they can follow and enjoy, he helps them with life skills like concentration and teamwork. The class is a great combination of fun and learning that they all respond to. I thoroughly recommend.
Jiu Jitsu has been running at Russell Lower for over two years. We have always found David to be highly professional, approachable and flexible. The children always appear to be highly engaged and there is a real sense of enjoyment during their sessions.

David has been coming to our school for several years now offering a breakfast club. Since his time here he has had a steady stream of committed pupils. His classes encourage the children to respect each other as well as gain confidence and life skills. The class is disciplined and well organised which is appreciated by the pupils, parents and staff. Parents are made very welcome to stay and watch the lessons and ask any questions to David about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
